Abstract and Texture Painter
Hello, I'm David Jaggers, a Kentucky born, abstract painter with a strong connection to the art and aesthetic of the 1950's and 60's Minimalist movement. Born a decade later. I grew up inundated by the visual themes and colors of the 1970's and 80's which has led to certain durable themes running throughout my work. There are pinstripe lines, textures, patterns, and palettes reminiscent of consumer mass market graphics like Trapper Keepers and the decorative aesthetics of 70s bowling alleys.
My compositional approach is one of construction and destruction. I make a mark, build on it and then actively destroy it to create "Organic complexity." Over the years, my creative process has naturally matured, leading me to explore the rich world of highly textured paint and impasto techniques.
I believe that art is not merely about color and content; it is equally about surface and texture. My artwork takes a critical view of the role of depth and space in abstract art. Often referencing basic geometry, my work explores the varying relationships and tension that can be created on a flat plane using color and texture, and sheen.
